Joost fans will be happy to know that a Joost Plug-in for DivX Connected has just been added. Warner Bros. & DivX Team Up for Online Retail Distribution

Divx LogoAccording to a shared press statement (attached below), Warner Bros. Entertainment will begin making their entire movie catalog available to online retailers for distribution starting this month in a “secure format.” Initially, only standard definition (SD) format movies will be available with high definition (HD) flicks to follow September 2009. All movies are said to be compatible with all DivX Certified DVD players, Blu-ray devices, gaming consoles, media streamers, and handhelds. D-Link’s DivX Connected Media Extender Gets Flash Video Support

As you can see in the above image (and other photos) taken by Dave Zatz, the D-Link DSM-330 is having no problem displaying and playing back Flash video content from sites like Hulu, YouTube, and ABC News. The latest Flash plug-in support has been rolled into Beta Release 1.4.0 build 54. However, the catch with all this Flash goodness is… users have to download individual website property plug-ins to display the content. In other words, you can’t just enter a URL of a flash-based site you like to view and have it automatically supported on the device. A full list of DivX Connected 1.4 plug-ins can be found here.

Sony Really Hearts DivX

Divx LogoIt was just a few months back that Sony certified their PlayStation 3 console to support DivX video playback. And in January Sony gave approval to port their entire Sony Pictures Television catalog to the DivX DRM-protected format for distribution to consumers. Now, the company is announcing they will begin porting its Sony Pictures Television International catalog to DivX as well. Obviously, this bodes well for DivX, Inc. and it also gives consumers a bit more flexibility on the type of devices (i.e. PC, TV, mobile) they can watch their purchased content on. It will be interesting to see what other big name players will join in and how DivX, Inc. plans on using H.264 encoding as part of their future strategy (referring to their acquisition of MainConcept AG).
