HP HDTV Media Hub Sneak Peek
CNET has posted video of Carly Fiorina’s keynote presentation where she unveiled the HP HDTV Media Hub, a product she proudly calls an “HP invention.” The Media Hub, which will be available later this Fall, with features similar to Microsoft’s new MCE inspired DVR platform, is sure to ruffle some feathers in Redmond for either biting the MCE experience or because the company has aligned itself with Apple and may possibly give the device native iTunes support (sounds like HP is playing the field to us).
Feature Highlights:
- HP designed electronic programing guide with dual tuner digital video recording
- Music information service: title, CD cover art, artist info, etc.
- Automatic update service (via background download) to keep the device up to date and add new features
- HP removable Media Drive (swap in larger capacity as needed)
- Multi-format card reader
- DVD recorder with LightScribe technology
- Ability to burn custom created photo slideshows with audio to a CD or DVD

That looks really good!
I wonder how much it will cost and how it will really work with digital cable systems which is a tricky businsess. It’s great to have 2 tuners, but how do you get access to them from your cable box?

I’m assuming they’ll be using a cable card — cut out the set-top all together.

perhaps… wish they had said. I just blogged this as well over on my site…
Cable card is OK, but you definitely sacrifice some additional on-demand capabilities from your cable company, which frankly I’ve been enjoying. Interesting sacrifice to make… Still looks really good though!
