Windows Home Server Released to OEMs and Adds Iomega and Fujitsu-Siemens as Partners

Big news today from the Microsoft camp. Windows Home Server (WHS) is production ready and is now shipping to manufactures for implementation into vendor hardware, according to Windows Home Server Blog. In addition, Iomega and Fujitsu-Siemens have joined the the roster of partner OEMs, which formerly was comprised of Gateway, HP, Lacie, and Medion. Retail availability of the product is expected to begin around late August.
Aside: It’s worth noting that 100,000+ public beta testers participated in WHS development. So today is also a big day for those who invested time/money and hacked together hardware, tested the software and filed bug reports, and publicized WHS on their blogs. According to reports I’ve seen, beta testers’ WHS evaluation version will expire 180 days from the time they’ve installed it. Hopefully Microsoft will show some love, other than “a Big tip-of-the-hat,” to those who contributed.
