First Look: ASUS Eee PC at HotHardware

If you got all warm and tingly when you first got wind of ASUS’ upcoming $199 Eee PC at Computex earlier this month, HotHardware (via DMT) has got some up close and personal shots of the soon to be everyone’s favorite budget Linux (Windows XP compatible) laptop / mobile internet device. Also included in the article are some newly acquired details, not mentioned in the company’s news announcement, that should whet the appetite even further.

New details revealed:

  • Makes use of Intel’s 910 mobile chipset
  • Offers a 900Mhz Intel Dothan Pentium M processor
  • Includes four USB 2.0 ports
  • VGA output
  • Flash card reader
  • 3 hour battery life
  • Runs the KDE desktop environment (screenshot of Eee PC’s KDE desktop)
  • Includes an “Easy” mode mobile interface with quick tabs to: Internet, Work, Learn, Play, Settings, Favorites
  • Pre-installed Skype, OpenOffice, anti-virus, educational software, and more
  • Direct link to web storage (partner not specified)

Things not included:

  • Bluetooth (would have been nice for headset VoIP calls and cell phone syncing)
  • Optical CD/DVD drive
  • Card slot for a cellular broadband card
