Under the impression that HD-DVD video is superior to WMV HD? Have a look at Jake Ludington’s pics and take on the topic. Jake claims: “I could find no artifacts in either video file, no macro blocks during motion sequences, and a great range of colors in both cases. The Xbox Video Marketplace file looked just slightly brighter than the HD-DVD, but overall I couldn’t tell any real difference.” In fact, the only difference that he and his video compression whiz colleague, Brandon Wirtz, could find is that WMV HD video never was capable of producing a true black – a limitation they claim in Windows Media Encoder and the new Studio Encoder from Microsoft. In total, Jake states video from the Xbox Video Marketplace is better than anything he’s ever rented from Comcast’s HD On Demand and a great way to sample HD movies.
