Amazon Unbox Video Service Makes an Unexpected Appearance

Former Amazon employee, Alan Taylor, fueled by the tip from HackingNetFlix.com that Amazon was working on a TV and movie download service similar to iTunes, set out to investigate the claim and came up with some great screenshots from pages cached on Goolge. It appears that Amazon’s new “Unbox” video service will sell TV shows for $1.99 a piece and movies at $9.99. Obviously, there’s no way of telling how large the media library will be, but users will be able to browse and play video snippets via an embedded player online or directly through Amazon’s Unbox Player on Windows XP (Home/Pro/Tablet), 2003, and NT. Alan also discovered that purchased content can be transfered to handhelds for on the go viewing (I’m guessing that means PlaysForSure devices since it’s probably using DRM-wrapped WMV files).
