Video Presentation: MythTV / KnoppMyth
I’m very fortunate to live in the Silicon Valley and be able attend the various tech conferences and user group meetings that seem to be held just about every other day. Last week Scott Boyd of A-Street Internet gave a presentation at PenLUG on MythTV / KnoppMyth which I recorded and thought I’d share with our eHomeUpgrade regulars. Scott basically walks us through what the MythTV platform is all about and how to best configure the hardware and software settings in order to have an extremely usable Media Center/PVR (and some may say better than TiVo) box. One of the many things I learned from the presentation that really stood out is that MythTV, for about a year now, has had an unofficial plugin called MythStreamTV that lets users placeshift their live and previously recorded TV content over a home network or over the Internet similar to a Slingbox. The video runs about 40 minutes, so you might want to grab a snack.
* FYI, I’m working on getting a link/download to the slide presentation which will be helpful as a reference. Another resource worth checking out in the meantime is EFF’s MythTV Cookbook.
