iUbi Blue 30GB Media Player Boasts Great Format Support and Bluetooth
On paper, the iUbi PMP2500B PMP looks like an absolute winner that would make anyone waiting for the “video iPod” absolutely forget about Apple’s super-brand (via DAPreview).Let’s start with the obvious draws to the device. First, the physical specs are nice, if not seen before. The 4.3 inch widescreen TFT LCD supports up to 16.7m colors at a resolution of 480×272. The 30GB of storage should be enough for a decent audio collection and a few full length movies as well. The built-in speakers make it possible to watch a movie without buds in your ears, though if you use them, you’ll get a deafening 32mW per channel - enough to make you hurt bad. All of this isn’t even scratching the surface, however.
The iUbi unit - which is still not shipping as of yet - has codec support out the ying-yang. Video files are supported up to 720×480, 30 fps, at 8Mbps.
Video support includes:
- MPEG 1/2/4
- DivX 3.x/4.x/5.x
- Svid
- WMV 9/ 8/ 7
- H.264
- MOV
- Real Video
Audio support includes:
- MP3
- WMA
- WAV
- OGG
- AC3
- ASF
- AAC-LC
On top of all that, you get a claimed 8 hours of video playback and 15 hours for audio. Even more, you can connect the unit to any video device and use the built-in MPEG-4 encoder to record video to the unit at 640×480 resolution, 30fps. USB On-the-go is also supported.
Most impressively, however, is the fact that the unit is one of the first PMPs to support Bluetooth. So, in theory, you shouldn’t have any problems connecting to a set of Bluetooth headphones to go completely wire-free in your video and audio watching and listening. The unit is based out of Korea where the iUbi brand is big. The UK market is going to see the unit first (I hope we see some hit our shores) at a price of £249.00, which is about $463.
