Bill Gates Gives His Team a Deserved Pat on the Back for MCE’s Success at WinHEC
Excerpt from Bill Gates’ keynote at WinHEC 5/23/06 (via Matt Goyer): “In terms of form factors for the Windows PC, one of the great successes over the last several years has been Media Center Edition of Windows. A year ago it was a little bit of a phenomenon, two years ago it really didn’t exist. It’s this year that we’re getting all of the elements to come together, the connections to the cable video, the satellite video, connecting up to those standards on a global basis, and people really can expect the PC to be the place where everything comes together, video over the Internet, where the innovation is great, but also the traditional video sources coming together into one place. So that energy we’ve put around Media Center has paid off in a very big way.”
Without a doubt MCE has played a significant role and been a leader in the media center PC space since its inception. Microsoft also remains at the forefront – along with partner Intel – championing the vision of the “Digital Home”. As on observer and enthusiast in the space, I’m excited about what Microsoft has accomplished thus far, but I’m also looking in anticipation of what the company and its hardware/content partners have in store for consumers in 2007 with the launch of Windows Vista – should be an exciting time.
