TViX M-3100U Video Machine Supports Hi-Def Videos, Various Formats
TViX has released some pretty slick HDD media player/recorder units in the past, but the new M-3100U looks to be one of the best designs they’ve released yet. Akihabara News doesn’t have a bunch of details on the unit except for a few key details. For one, the device supports up to 1080i HD output via it’s component output cables. No digital DVI or HDMI ports on this box, unfortunately. It’s not clear if the device can playback Hi-Def videos in MPEG or other formats, so we’ll have to wait for TViX to release detailed specs to know for sure.
On the codec front, the M-3100U - like it’s bretheren before it - does a pretty good job on the video and audio side. For video, you get support for DivX 3.x/4.x/5.x, XviD, MPG, DAT and even DVD files stored as VOB and IFO files, or as an ISO image. On the audio side, MP3, WMA and Ogg are the flavors of choice. The unit supports both IDE and SATA hard drives as well. The built-in display is more circa 1996 than 2006, but it does give pertinent information like the region format, the video output quality and time. No word yet on pricing or availability.

I really like the devices sent out by TViX, and I’d love to see this one in action. Anyone know if you can buy TViX devices in Canada? Or at least online for delivery to Canada?
