Warner Brothers to Use BitTorrent to Distribute Movies and TV Shows
Well, it looks like the anti-piracy agreement made between BitTorrent and the MPAA has begun yielding significant benefits, as Reuters is reporting that Warner Brothers intends to use the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) technology to distribute its movies and televisions shows for legal downloads (via Engadget). It would appear that digital distribution is truly coming this year, as more and more movie and television studios are adopting technologies that enable digital distribution of their content. However, as is always the case, the adoption of digital distribution does come with some caveats.
For one, the movies and shows you download cannot be copied and cannot be burned to DVD. They must reside on a computer hard drive to be viewed. The movies and shows, will however, be available for download the same day that they hit retail stores and top titles like Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and TV show Babylon 5 will be in the initial offerings. Firm pricing hasn’t yet been established, but it appears that individual television episodes should be available for around $1, while movies will mirror DVD counterparts in pricing.
