Skype Handset for Mac Users
You’ve gotta really feel for Mac users. They use a platform that is more stable and visually stunning than anything Microsoft has ever put out. Yet, there they are, with limited support for the things that make PCs fun - like games, media and Internet Telephony. Until now, that is! IPEVO is finally showing Mac users VOIP Skype love by offering a Skype phone that is Mac compatible (via Stuff Magazine). On top of everything, IPEVO seems to have a sense of style to them, offering phones with a nice visual aesthetic; something Mac users claim to have in spades. It is a match made in heaven indeed.

As a Mac user who regularly uses iChat’s full-screen video conferencing capability with Windows AIM/Trillian users around the world, I don’t see the point of having to pickup a handset to do the same thing. Skype/Mac doesn’t require one either. Plus if you still need to have the PC running 24/7 to use this phone, then aren’t you paying the power company the savings you would have paid the phone company instead?
Bottom line; It’s not that the product wasn’t available, as much as there wasn’t any real demand to begin with. It’s usefulness is limited to SOHO locations who need privacy, and that’s about all.
