Open-E Introduces Two New NAS iSCSI Software Solutions

Open-E GmbH, the software developer in Network Attached Storage (NAS) provisioning pre-installed software that combines advanced storage management with cost-effective systems, today announced that the company is broadening her product line and introducing a complete new line of Open-E iSCSI products for building cost-effective, high performing iSCSI Target systems.
The Open-E iSCSI software is the perfect solution for multi-workstation facilities that need significantly more I/O throughput, but do not have the resources for a Fibre Channel SAN. The Open-E iSCSI software makes SANs (Storage Area Networks) available to small- and medium-size businesses by using inexpensive Ethernet adapters and switches to transfer data.
iSCSI is especially appealing since it enables low-cost solutions that provide rapid and efficient transport of block-level I/O data, where simplicity, flexibility, and price/performance are critical IT decision factors. “The availability of affordable infrastructure components like the 1Gbit-Ethernet cards, makes iSCSI an emerging storage protocol for the next years,” says Kristof Franek, Managing Director of Open-E.

The key benefit of Open-E iSCSI software is that it enables multiple Windows, Linux, Unix and OS X workstations to store the data on an iSCSI network without the overhead of protocols like SMB, FTP or AppleTalk. This enables clients to use the native file system of their operating system instead.
Open-E iSCSI makes it easy for administrators to control and manage storage resources and clients’ volume mounts. Through an authentication mechanism, administrators can easily change and delegate access to volume sets or individual volumes to the specified client.
