MobiNote Announces Second Generation DP7010-SP 7” High-Quality PMP with DRM Solution
Eyeing the developmental potential of the portable multimedia application market, MobiNote Technology will announce at the Computex 2005 the MobiNote DP7010-SP, the second generation portable media player (PMP) with 7-inch LTPS display. DP7010-SP is equipped with built-in stereo speakers and the DRM solution (Digital Right Management).
Following the heat of the MP3 player, the MP4 player as a PMP will surely become the next start consumer electronics. In fact, many manufacturers already displayed this March at the CeBIT held in Hanover, Germany, their PMP products. These included the Creative and Samsung. Nonetheless, the availability of digital contents makes the development of PMP still in its infancy.
According to Business Development Director, Keith Chiang of MobiNote Technology Corp., the DRM is the major problem puzzling most digital content providers (DCPs) who are afraid that the piracy and abuse problems in MP3 music would recur in digital video content, it explains the reason why digital content is inadequate. Therefore, MobiNote equips the DivX VOD, a multilingual DRM solution, in the MobiNote DP7010-SP.
“Each MobiNote DP7010-SP owns an exclusive PID and registration code for DivX Video-on-Demand (VOD) Service” said Keith Chiang. After registering from DivX VOD website (www.divx.com/vod), users can easily purchase and download legal video digital DivX contents on-line. When users playback the video contents, the MobiNote DP7010-SP will double check the registration code by itself. Only when the registration code of MobiNote DP7010-SP and the registration code of the downloaded video content matches, then MobiNote DP7010-SP can playback the video file without any problem. This also means all the video contents have to match up the registration code with the PMP to be able to playback the content downloaded. If users attempt to share a downloaded content to friends on a different PMP, they will experience difficulty.
MobiNote DP7010-SP, a 7-inch MP4 player equipped with the high-quality LTPS (Low Temperature Poly Silicon) screen and advanced MPEG-4 compression technology for playing MP4 videos in a wide screen format (16:9). Furthermore, the MobiNote DP7010-SP has a wide viewing angle of up to 170°, which is ideal for movie appreciation. It comes with built-in stereo speakers, DRM (Digital Right Management) solutions and friendly user interface. Compared to the 3.5” pocket-size PMPs, the MobiNote DP7010-SP has a resolution of 400% to give live video and audio effects like seeing a movie at the cinema. The built-in 20/40GB hard drive, MP3 player, photo viewer, voice recorder, and digital video recorder in the MobiNote DP7010-SP (operable in energy-saving mode through the user-friendly interface) fulfills the demands of users asking for a fully-functional personal multimedia center.
While the PSP, Smart Phone and PDA are competing with the small-sized PMP, Keith Chiang indicated that MobiNote has developed mature know-how in the compression and application technologies of MPEG-4. Currently the company is focusing on the R&D of the 7-inch high-level PMPs and on the auto, PVR and mobile MPEG-4 player markets. In the area of digital content, the company has introduced the DRM solution to provide digital content providers a legal download platform to promote the circulation and application of digital content. To ensure the convenience of video file conversion, buddle software is provided with the MobiNote DP7010-SP to facilitate users to legally convert VCD, DVD or DV movies into MPEG-4 files and store them in the PMP for later use. Chiang added, MobiNote will introduce a wide range of PMPs for different application markets in the second half of 2005 to fulfill the needs of different consumer groups.
