Apple Goes after Low Hanging Fruit, Hits Amahi with a Cease and Desist Order for Using ‘App Store’

amahi app store cease and desistMost likely many of you have probably never heard of Amahi, a small open source home server project based on Fedora (and now Ubuntu!) that provides users a marketplace of sorts for installing applications to their server. Unfortunately for Amahi’s use of “App Store,” which they’ve been using for quite some time, has got them in Apple’s legal department’s cross hairs. What’s funny is that Amahi has nothing to do with Apple and is not even in the mobile space — but I guess since Apple recently branched out to downloadable software on OS X they feel entitled. In any case, Amahi, with its limited resources, can’t fight “the internationally famous” tech bully and is holding a contest to rename their marketplace.

Aside: why doesn’t Apple trademark “app” and just be done with it? Below is the actual text from Apple’s “APP STORE” trademark, in case you’re curious.
