Vuze’s ‘Project Leap’ Aims to Challenge Google TV

Vuze, the producers of the popular BitTorrent PC client under the same name, is planning on getting into the embedded TV game. According to Engadget, “Project Leap” is a TV application that will allow users to do meta searches for videos online (i.e. Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, popular Torrent sites) and from computers on their home network. Once a source is chosen, the video will instantly play on their TV. Additionally, Project Leap will provide video viewers with related data via a “widget-like selection” from third-party services and will be able to tap into social networks and chat services. Vuze, Inc. hopes to convince TV manufactures to include their software in future TV set releases. However, in the meantime, the company plans on launching Project Leap as a PC application for Mac and Windows this September (Thinking: Vuze might have better success releasing this as a Google TV or Boxee/XBMC app).
