Hauppauge Intros the MediaMVP-HD Digital Media Player

Hauppauge has added a new model to their long established MediaMVP product lineup. The new device, which we got a sneak peek of at CeBIT 2009,  is known as the Hauppauge MediaMVP-HD Digital Media Player and will feature, as you might suspect, support for 1080p video via HDMI. The MediaMVP-HD comes loaded with a UPnP client capable of streaming shared photo, music, and video files from networked PCs and storage devices over Ethernet. You can also use MediaMVP-HD’s single USB port (located on the front bezel) to attach a USB thumb drive or external storage drive for playback of your stored media files. On top of HDMI, MediaMVP-HD also provides component, composite, and S-Video video connections. Full specifications below. Hauppauge’s MediaMVP-HD will be available this Summer with an MSRP of $149.99 (currently listed at Amazon.com for $139.99).

Aside: I have a sneaking suspicion that the hacker community may have a field day with this device being that it runs Linux and leverages Sigma’s 8655 processor [PDF] with “built-in multimedia hardware for decoding high definition MPEG-2 and H.264 videos, digital audio and digital pictures.” Would be cool to see someone hack this into a Boxee / XBMC box similar to the Apple TV setup used by atvusb-creator.

There is a project – The MediaMVP Media Center to hack MediaMVP players. Not sure it already supports MediaMVP-HD. But I hope it'll.

  • http://www.ehomeupgrade.com Alexander Grundner

Thanks for the reminder. The MediaMVP Media Center project is located at: http://www.mvpmc.org

    About the project:
“The goal is to build a media player that runs on the MediaMVP itself, and fetches media files off standard, external servers. Currently, it supports using remote filesystems (NFS and CIFS), digital video recorders (MythTV and ReplayTV), SlimServer, HTTP, the Hauppauge MediaMVP server, GBPVR, VLC, Yahoo! Weather, and more.”

Alexander, Any status on a compatible version of mvpmc with the new MediaMVP-HD? I have not been able to find any documentation about mvpmc with the new version. My plan is to use the MediaMVP-HD as a mythtv frontend. Thanks! Chad

Unfortunately, nothing new to report on this front. I dug around and couldn't find any MVPMC related news regarding the MediaMVP-HD.
