If you have the desire to go wireless with your HDMI connection and you have $999 to spare, have a look at Gefen’s new 60Ghz solution which promises to deliver uncompressed 1080p video from up to 30 feet away. The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz supports the HDMI v1.3 specification (including multi-channel audio) and can be upgraded via internet firmware updates. According to the Gefen guys, gamers will also appreciate it’s low latency transmissions not possible with non-60Ghz implementations. Now we just need a wireless power technology to hit the market for a true wireless HDTV install.

GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz is Shipping, Offering the First Uncompressed Method of 1080p Full HD Wireless Connectivity up to 30 Feet in Distance

CHATSWORTH, CA – The leader in digital connectivity solutions today announced its GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz extender is shipping. This sender/receiver system is the fourth product from Gefen offering wireless video connectivity. It joins three other wireless products already shipping: the GefenTV Wireless for VGA; Gefen Wireless for HDMI UWB; and GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 5Ghz extenders.

The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz employs innovative multi-antenna technology from SiBEAM that enables HDMI extension supporting full HD resolutions at 1080p. This is the first wireless solution from Gefen that is uncompressed at the 3Ghz bandwidth, making it well suited for demanding applications like gaming. Multi-channel audio is delivered alongside the video with support for many HDMI v1.3 features.

Gamers will appreciate its low latency, and its ability to deliver vibrant resolutions with multi-channel audio in the HDMI format. Yet the system also works well using a computer with DVI connections.

A one-to-one signal transmission of HDMI up to 30 feet (10 meters) in distance makes it ideal for in-room applications. The system is particularly desirable for any integrator who wants to avoid in-wall cable runs or needs to do a retrofit installation.

The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz extender comes with HDCP compliance, support for CEC protocols, an RS-232 port for easy control or convenient Internet access to firmware updates and an IR remote for turning power on/off.

  • I agree. You could hire a professional installer to work the wiring through the wall. Until this tech starts selling for under $100, device makers won't see any real traction.
