ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 Media Player

asus hdp r1

ASUS has a new product in the pipeline that is set to compete with all the current crop of HD media players and digital media adapters. The ASUS O!Play HDP-R1 [promo] is a compact device that connects directly to your HDTV and is able to playback audio, 1080p video, photo content directly from an external USB drive or eSATA drive — much like the HD media players we’ve been seeing as of late. However, the HDP-R1 has another trick up its sleeve, it can also stream media content from a networked PC or NAS server via Ethernet. No word on pricing or availability for the U.S. at this time, but Engadget Spanish states that it’s currently on sale in Taiwan for around €119, or about $169.

    What? No .ISO support?

I'd go with either the ION ATOM and XBMC, Sage's turnkey HD Box, or the Xtreamer, all which play 1080p nicely (although I can't vouch for Xtreamer personally).

Why are these companies still using 10/100 network interfaces?????? Pushing large MKVs from a NAS on a gig network has to bottleneck at a 10/100 network adapter.

Agree, why won't they do Gigabit now? You will nver get the full speed, but it's aleast a little better for streaming.. Untill now Realtek is still poor with network streaming compared to Sigma for example.. Personally I like this one (http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/05/conceptronic…) or http://www.yuixx.com, it's baed on a powerful 800 MHz Intel chip with Gigabit and lot's of options..

no NFS on realtek devices yet, NFS kicks SMB sharing on wifi networks. go for i.e a WDTV with external lan adapter and you will have a better and cheaper player. of wait or wdtv2
