SnapStream Adds PlaceShifting Functionality to Beyond TV 4.9 Beta

It appears that everyone in the SnapStream Beta Program got a nice surprise in the recent Beyond TV 4.9 release. 4.9 now provides support for content placeshifting similar to the Slingbox, but it’s leveraging Microsoft’s Silverlight for playback (I’m guessing Beyond TV with some type of .NET Silverlight tookit is doing the heavy lifting of network speed detection and video transcoding). In essence, any device or browser that supports Microsoft Silverlight is Beyond TV placeshifting ready. Silverlight currently supports Windows and Mac OS X, with support for Linux and Symbian OS on the way. If you’re interested in learning more, Brent Evans at GeekTonic has some interesting findings on how well the current feature-set works.
