AMEX Announces the RM-mp1 Media Center/Presentation Remote

Not wanting to miss out on the Media Center user that also conducts presentations from their PC, AMEX announced their RM-mp1 remote control. Billed from AMEX as a “media-remote, laser pointer, and high definition touchpad mouse,” the RM-mp1 really is a jack of all trades.
At its heart, the RM-mp1 is a presentation device. It has a built in laser pointer and several buttons set for next, back, and start slide show. The device is compatible with any PC that comes wireless USB ready and has a separate USB receiver for those that don’t.
But dismissing the RM-mp1 as simply a fancy presentation remote would be a mistake. It has built in buttons to start Media Center or Player. It controls optical drives as well as audio content. Probably the most interesting feature is the touchpad area that allows a level of control that most air mouses do not.
Sporting a sleek design (H 104mm x W 38mm x D 12mm) the remote should be comfortable to hold and use for any length presentation. It uses a 3.7V Lithium Polymer battery that can be recharged via the USB charging cable. It will be available in black and white when it is released. No word yet on when that will be.
