MythTV Frontend for iPhone Hits the Scene
According to Chris Carey, the main developer behind MythTV for iPhone: “The software combines the work of many great programmers into one application. It allows you to browse your recorded shows, and look at show details. You can stream any recorded show to the iPhone wirelessly. It allows you to control your other (PC based) MythFrontend with a web-based remote control.” All I can say is, WOW! And for those Linux guys who have frowned upon their brethren for buying iPhones, now you can cut them some slack because this is a sweet tool based on open-source software – and because it’s designed to work with everyone’s fav open-source PVR application, MythTV, it makes it that much better.
Chris has also posted his GPL licensed code on Google Code for others to look over and expand on. The software leverages PHP for the backend, Smarty and iUI for the frontend. So if you have the coding skills to lend hand, I’m sure he will appreciate it. If not, download the software and enjoy. Of course, show it off to all your friends once you get it up and running.
Aside: Chris has also developed a Asterisk Voicemail client for the iPhone as well. Definitely worth checking out.
