Is Netflix Streaming Coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3?
If anyone doubts for a minute that Netflix is looking to deliver online video to the home, they’ve obviously got their eyes closed and their ears covered. With plug-ins like MyNetflix for Vista MCE and the plug-in for SageTV hitting in recent days, Netflix streaming videos are quickly being moved to the living room. However, these particular solutions are being driven more by the community than by Netflix. With no recent signs of hardware coming from the announced deal with LG, it would look like Netflix is content to let the community do their work for them. Appearances, as we all know, can be deceiving.
According to Seanbajuice, a recent survey straight from Netflix, is hinting at the strong possibility of Netflix bringing their streaming video service to an Xbox 360 or PS3 near you (via Engadget). Are you a little skeptical or need a little more proof? Well, it may not be a silver bullet, but this screenshot of the survey from Netflix might give you some encouragement. A link left in one of the comments at Seanbajuice does take you to the survey, giving even more credibility to this rumor.
If the details are to be believed, the 360 is pretty much ready to go using your existing Xbox LIVE account. The PS3 would need a disc – which would cost a one-time $3 fee – in order to stream the videos from Netflix. Should this development become reality, it could be the very thing that makes Netflix the forerunner in delivering online video to the living room. We’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on this in the coming weeks and months ahead.
