Vok’s Fireplace Entertainment Center Lets You Warm Up in Front of the TV
Older people might still consider relaxation to be throwing a few logs on the fire, puffing a pipe, donning their bifocals and reading the day’s newspaper in a comfy chair. But today, the home entertainment system pretty much means you can toss the paper in the fireplace, the pipe needs to stay outside to keep from dirtying up your gear and the comfy chair is heated, gives you a massages and can probably balance your 401(k). That’s why Vok took it upon themselves to reengineer the fireplace.
Vok calls it the Multimedia Fireplace, and it’s quite a work of art (via Trendir). The unit combines beautiful wood aesthetics with a cozy fireplace and modern TV. Wood grain comes in a choice of oak, birch or rosewood while the fireplace itself comes in 4 sizes, fitting an LCD up to 52 inches. The unit sports panels to hide the fireplace and hide the TV, making it look like your run of the mill fireplace or TV stand if you wish it to look so. Going by the German language press release [PDF], the unit appears to include a Sharp LCD-TV, Bose DVD Entertainment System with speakers, and possibly a Mac mini for connectivity and entertainment options.
Don’t go looking for the Vok fireplace in your local Best Buy, though. The unit starts at $23,800 for the smallest model and $31,500 for the largest. Nevertheless, it has to be the ultimate TV stand we’ve seen to date.
