Dell Selling Ubuntu Powered XPS M1330 Notebooks for Under $1000

Spurred on by the demand of consumers for high-end and budget Linux based desktops and notebooks, Dell has just added the company’s sexiest XPS M1330 notebook to the penguin wearing lineup. The XPS M1330 is now available, according to Direct2Dell, in Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, and the United States with Ubuntu 7.10 pre-installed. Moreover, customers can now purchase their systems with Corel LinDVD for legal DVD movie playback out of the box (one of the biggest requests since launching their Linux lineup) and can download product specific Dell OS Reinstallation DVD ISOs (aka factory-installation image) from the company’s wiki.
Also, noteworthy… Dell has begun selling many of their Linux systems with proprietary NIVIDA graphics drivers installed and 3D effects enabled for superior performance. The pre-installed drivers also solve the suspend/hibernate issues prone to NVIDIA powered notebooks running “free” drivers. Of course, such issues are almost non-existent with systems running Intel’s open source graphics drivers.
