Skype on the AppleTV? Absolutely!

The AppleTV, since it has come out, has been the source of many hackers project list. The device is nothing more than a stripped down computer and hackers have been able to exploit that convenient fact, implementing JamanTV support, playing DivX files and even a GPS plugin. Well, pretty soon – according to AppleTV Hacks – you’ll be able to place Skype calls via the set top Apple device.
The developer who is working on this is a Canadian teen who has already gotten a wireless keyboard hack working with the AppleTV. Brandon Holland is now looking at the Skype plugin with the hope of getting it to work with a standard USB headset or USB phone. Holland expects to release the beta as soon as he can make a call. The convenience of being able to make a Skype call while watching content on the AppleTV is too enticing. We’ll keep our eyes open for whenever the beta hits.
