lantronix ubox 2100-4100

Okay, this product is going to sound a bit odd at first, but it really has some practical uses. The Lantronix UBox essentially allows users to remotely access USB peripherals, via LAN or Internet, as if they were physically connected to a PC. Danny Mavormatis, who just recently posted the video embedded below, states one can use the UBox with “devices like web cams, speakers, microphones, sensors, security access equipment, multi-function printers, hard drives, scanners - even Apple iPods over the Internet.” The only catch: In order to control any of the connected USB peripherals, you have to install the UBox software on each Windows PC (no Mac or Linux support at this time). Google’s Rumored GDrive to Store and Possibly Stream Content to Users Online?

By Alexander Grundner | November 27th, 2007

google logoBesides allowing users to backup their data files, music, video clips, and images from their personal computers, the Wall Street Journal is reporting (via Reuters) that GDrive could let users access their files through the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on using a password, as well as, share their content with friends. Unfortunately, it’s unclear how the service will work (most likely it will just allow users to download media content to their device and open data files using Google Docs), but wouldn’t be nice if it functioned similarly to Orb or Media Master and optimized music and video content for streaming playback on a particular device (say Google Android, Apple iPhone)? But then again, maybe I’m just hoping for too much? GDrive is expected to launch in the next few months, according to sources close to the WSJ.
