MooncatVentures Demos UPnP Mobile Media Client for the iPhone

mooncatventures iphone mobile media client demoNot much in the way of technical details included in the video or on the website, but MooncatVentures‘ UPnP client for the iPhone is intriguing. Basically, it allows the iPhone to communicate with any available UPnP servers on your home network (the demo shows the client identifying three servers: EyeConnect on a Macmini, TwonkyVision from an MCE PC, and a D-Link Media Server) to stream stored audio and video content for playback on the device. Unfortunately, it looks like the client is only capable of connecting to a UPnP server via your local WLAN, so don’t think you’ll be able to access your content remotely from a street cafe. In any case, it’s a convenient and fun way to access your stored content around the house.

Oh I wouldn't say its limited to your local net, I just don't have a ton of money to pay lawyers. But all the code will be on sourceforge and the proxy is not hard to configure, what you do with the code I have no control over.

Details on website::, Its work on the app or work on the website, I do have a call out for java programmers willing to help, but I do have a day job, full time java developer.

But I should have the sourceforge archive next week, the code is alpha but very usable, binaries maybe in a couple weeks. release version around October. But there should be regular betas before than.

We did the youtube because I don't think anyone else has an app quite like this one. And I thought people would like the cats too.

One caveat I had a lot of problems with ilife 08 which is why some of the videos on youtube stutter

As far as the iphone playing video, its smooth and stutter free.

Ejoy, this is open source so it means free.

Watch for it on sourceforge very soon.

    Hi,
This is something I've been searching for a long time. Since I am a novice in Ipod programming, can you please send me some links for a how-to guide or something? I own a Linksys NAS 200 with a working media server. Thank you.

This could be just what I am looking for - When is it going to be available? Have loads of music and video on a Synology NAS and want to stream to my Ipod.

    Hope it is released soon
