Yes, transcoding is on the fly - however playback starts only after the entire conversion of the video is complete. For audio there is no such issue and you can play Internet radio stations as well as any format audio (FLAC, WMA, etc.).

You are correct that MP4/MOV/3GPP delivered over HTTP must be fully re-encoded before playback starts. For that same reason with the PSP too, one needs to wait till entire video conversion is done. The thing is, that you need not convert stuff in advance, but rather first playback attempt initiates conversion. Subsequent playback attempts do not require an additional conversion so as long as the conversion completed once, you will be able to play it instantly.

I thought the iPhone needed a special format that needed to be pre-encoded (the reason why YouTube had to re encode all their videos)?? So, can TVersity really transcode my movies on the fly for the iPhone?

You didn't answer for the PSP. I tried playing a video and it didn't work for me.

Transcoding is on the fly. You need not do any manual conversion. You do need to install some directshow codecs (depending on your file formats) but that is it.

Oh can I really play my DivX on my PSP thanks to tversity?

How do I make my DivX play on my iPhone? Do I have to transcode all my videos before? If so, this is not an acceptable solution because it would double my 40 Gb video folder (not speaking about the hours of CPU needed for that)...
