Get Remote Access to Your Mac at Home with Telekinese’s iPhone Remote
Hard to believe, but that’s just what this Mac application does (via AE). All one needs to do is install iPhone Remote on your Macintosh OS X 10.4 system, enter your PCs IP number into the phone’s web browser, and then login via iPhone Remote’s web interface. Once logged in, users have full access to their PC’s music and video files, iTunes remote control support, iSight image capture, and more. All-in-all it’s a pretty neat little freeware app. Below is a list of supported media formats playable on iPhone.
Playable Media via iPhone’s CoreMedia (Quicktime Plugin) Player:
- H.264 Baseline Profile Level 3.0 video, up to 640 x 480 at 30 fps.
- MPEG-4 Part 2 video (Simple Profile)
- AAC-LC audio, up to 48 kHz
- .mov, .mp4, .m4v, .3gp file formats
- Any movies or audio files that can play on an iPod, including protected files if the iPhone is authorized to play them.

* Note: A third-party dynamic DNS routing service, along with tweaks to you home firewall, will most likely be required for access outside of your home network.
* UPDATE 1: Jonathan Green of Atmashperic Endeavors pinged me with another VNC-style web app called WebVNC (Windows ONLY) that can also be used with the iPhone, or any internet capable device with a decent web browser.
* UPDATE 2: MacRumors:Forums has an informative thread on people’s experience using this software after learning about it from our post.
