Enable 640×480 Video Calls in Skype Today

Skype Developer Zone has released details on how to modify your Windows/Mac Skype application for what they call high resolution video calls until (possibly) their next public release is available which will natively support this feature (via MAKE). But before you get all excited there’s a few prerequisites… you’ll need a webcam that can handle 640×480 video recording (most can only do 320×240), a modern hyper-threading or dual core processor, a minimum 128 kbit/s broadband uplink connection, and a mate who has an equivalent setup to communicate with. Other than that, it’s just a matter of editing a text config file to turn the feature on. Good luck! Instructions: Hi-rez calls for Windows, Hi-rez calls for Mac.

  1. I’ve just written a simple software to enable/force/configure/setup/hack Skype to send high quality video even if you didn’t bought an expensive logitech webcam.
You may also send higher resolution than Skype’s HQ : the unofficial Skype HD !!!
