PC Magazine Rates Niveus Rainier Media Center PC: 4.5 out of 5
Congrats to Niveus Media! Not only is their new set-top MCE PC a sexy looking product (and a replacement to their award winning AVX Media Center), the Rainier Edition has got the goods under the hood that will please the most critical of A/V enthusiasts who are looking for performance, silence and a well balanced feature-set.
Some of the features that impressed the PC Magazine reviewer:
- Use of Intel’s notebook-class Core 2 Duo T7200 processor for keeping the PC running cool
- Use of aircraft-grade aluminum in its enclosure which doubles as a heat sink
- Integration of ATI’s Radeon HD capable X1600 Pro graphics card
- HD DVD disc reader
- Well laid out A/V receiver-like plug back panel (7.1 surround sound, HDMI, VGA, etc.)
- Generous 750GB internal storage for 80 hours of recorded HDTV content
- Dual NTSC tuners, and single ATSC/HDTV tuner
The only drawback, really, of this computer is its price ($3,499 base - $5,499 as reviewed), but as the reviewer states: “Sure, it is a bit expensive, but like other luxury items, it’s worth the cost for the people who care about quality.” Very true. It’s definitely not your standard cookie-cutter PC, and the more you research it, the more things you’ll find that set it apart for the rest.

Hey Alexander,
Given that this PC does not have one either, when are we going to start to see cablecard enabled vista machines given that Vista finally has a release date?
