Rumor: Google Video on Apple’s iTV

apple itv backside cordsIf true, could this be a sign that Apple is opening up their products to third party content services? (Yea, a first!) Newsweek speculates that iTV users will be able to access certain Internet properties, including Google Video, and stream content for viewing on one’s TV set (via Engadget). But what’s not clear if “the talks”, Marissa Mayer, Google’s consumer product chief, is claiming are happening with Apple include negotiations for users to download premium content, like TV shows, for $1.99 from Google Video, besides just streaming popular user-generated content. At this point, you never know… Apple just added Google CEO, Dr. Eric Schmidt, to the Board of Directors. Could a revenue split agreement be in the works?

My guess/opinion: No. Apple is too greedy (and protective of their own offerings). Plus, Google Video’s DRM is currently not compatible with Apple’s products. What do you guys think? Will Apple ever play nice and create content partnerships with the likes of Akimbo, Rhapsody, MTV, etc.?

Apple is more likely to partner with google rather than the likes of uTube. I can see it happening.

iTV needs something like this to separate it from the other Media center extender type devices.
