HP Unveils Media Centric iPAQ rx4000 Wireless PDA

hp rx4000Not sure if I consider this device to be “sexy” as Brian Lam at Gizmodo describes it, but HP’s new iPAQ rx4000 does have some special things going on that set it apart from previous products in the iPAQ line. For one, it has dropped its corporate looks for a friendlier, more usable portable media player form factor. (PDAs are nice, but as you know their not ideal for media navigation and playback.) The rx4000 features a compact anti-glare 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen display, scroll wheel for one handed navigation, built-in wireless connectivity (802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0), SDIO card slot, 128MB of internal memory, and is powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5.0 OS – so you know you’ll be able to extend the device with the plethora of Windows Mobile apps available.

Prices start at $299 and will be available in Asia starting October 2006 (no word if we’ll see it stateside any time soon).
