How-To: Build Your Own Ubuntu MythTV Media Center PC

mythtv ubuntuActually, I wish I was the one offering this particular how-to. But fortunately for all of us, the guy behind the Monolith Media Center, Andrew Barbaccia, has been kind enough to share his knowledge with the public through his personal site where his coverage ranges (see sidebar “Ubuntu MythTV”) from getting Ubuntu Desktop Linux up and running to configuring MythTV with the appropriate hardware. Overall, it looks like an invaluable resource if you’re interested in building your own DVR box or just want to extend the functionality of your current multimedia desktop. Bonus: Andrew also just launched the Ubuntu MythTV Blog to keep track of all the latest developments in this area along with helpful reference links. If you live in Europe/Asia where DVB is available, have a look at this guide by UK Ubuntu / MythTV enthusiast, Gary Parker.

Side note: I just been made aware of a how-to video by the guys at Rev3 (Kevin Rose & Dan Huard) – based on KnoppMyth. It’s probably one the best produced videos I’ve seen to date on the MythTV install and configuration process.
