AverMedia Adding Linux Support to Its TV Tuners

avermedia tv-tuner tuxIt looks like building a Linux-based PVR will soon be a lot easier thanks to the folks at AverMedia who have pledged support for the platform on their TV Tuner range (via Hexus, MCPW). The new offering is “in response to the demands of the Linux community as part of our commitment to offering complete solutions for the market,” says Jon Rainford, AverMedia’s multimedia product manager. “Linux is an ideal base for PVR solutions for the more advanced user and we have developed drivers for the most popular distributions. We plan to develop similar support for other products in our range over the next 12 months.”

Initially, driver support will be available to Fedora Core 3 & 4, Mandriva, and SUSE.

It’s also worth noting that AverMedia offers a home surveillance system package for Linux that can monitor up to 16 cameras simultaneously (with motion detection), MPEG-4 video capture, and a off-site video remote manager.
