Locura Personal Media Server lets You Create Your Own PSP Media Server at Home
If you’re one of the proud owners of a PSP who enjoys more than just gaming, yet is disgruntled at poor UMD support and outrageous prices for said UMDs, then you may be interested in what VillainousMind has created (via I4U News). The idea behind Locura is pretty simple. It utilizes the web browser built into your PSP to get your computer’s media streaming (or downloaded) to your PSP. Since Locura basically turns your home computer into a web server, you can technically browse the contents from any web browser, however, the content is designed to work perfectly with the Sony PSP.
Locura enables audio streaming by using a dynamic RSS feed, which means new music is automatically picked up and made available to your PSP without extra configuration. Since the PSP doesn’t support video streaming yet, you’re limited to simply downloading video content. The picture browser automatically resizes pictures to work perfectly on the PSP screen. Additionally, if you know HTML and VB, you can customize your pages to your liking or utilize the built-in themes. If you’re network savvy, you can even enable Locura over the internet by forwarding the appropriate port on your router. The free version of Locura is limited to all functionality other than music and videos. If you want that audio/video content to work, you’ll need to fork over $30 to make it happen. The “family” version will allow for 5 connections and retails for $60, although through May 5th, you can get it for just $50.
