Buffalo Boosts NAS TeraStation to 2TB


buffalo terastation 2tbA recent post over at Reg Hardware has a quick write up on the new 2TB TeraStation by Buffalo Technology. The new 2TB TeraStation comes in both a home and a Pro version. The home version includes media server software from Mediabolic, which allows users to manage and distribute digital content to multiple PCs or network entertainment devices on the home network. The product is one of the first DLNA certified NAS devices on the market. This certification helps provide compatibility and interoperability amongst DLNA complaint home digital devices.

The Pro version supports Active Directory member support for deployment in larger organization without the need to administer users seperatly on the LAN. These features typically are not found on lower end NAS devices. Both versions of the TeraStation support Windows and Macintosh and include four operational modes: Standard, Spanning, Mirroring and Raid 5. This latest series also offer gigabit connections and and jumbo frame capability for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks.

The 2TB home server is available for $1899 and the Pro version will cost $1999. A smaller 1.6TB capacity version of the home server is also available for $1499.
