Lycos Launches VoIP Service with Bells and Whistles
You know, I don’t think this Voice Over IP thing is really going to take off. Between Vonage and Skype, and every cable operator in America, I don’t see it. I just don’t see it. Sarcasm meter off. Speaking of – do you remember the search engine Lycos? Well, according to MobileMag, it would appear that they are branching out into the VoIP arena since taking on Google really didn’t turn out all that well – for anyone really. So, what can Lycos offer that you’re not getting elsewhere?
For starters, they’re integrating web surfing and music playing into Lycos Phone. Not convinced yet? Well, try free video calls, unlimited free incoming calls, free streaming video, free fax and free voicemail-to-email service. Haven’t hit the “Sign Up” button? Well, how about 100 free minutes of PC-to-landline calls with a FREE U.S. phone number to boot. I kind of thought that would get your attention. Where other services charge monthly fees (nominal, albeit) for that US phone number, Lycos is showing you that love for free. On top of that, you can earn free minutes by taking advantage of promo offers. If you haven’t VoIP’d yet, maybe Lycos has enough to get you on board, that is, if you believe there’s a future in this whole VoIP thing anyways.
