TabletKiosk’s eo v7110 UMPC Hits the Market

With all of the hoopla surrounding the UMPC/Origami announcement a few weeks back by Microsoft and Intel, it’s about time that a device would be announced for the market. First up to bat? The new eo from TabletKiosk (via OhGizmo!). The eo v7110 is schedule to hit the streets at the end of April. If you think the picture looks familiar, it should. It’s the same UMPC design seen plastered all over the web the past month or two.

So, what comes packed in that UMPC? Well, the budget $899 model sports a 1Ghz Via C7 NaNo processor, 256MB RAM, 30GB 4200 rpm hard drive, 800×480 resolution on a 7-inch TFT-LCD touchscreen and built-in 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth. It will, of course, run Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. For an extra $100, you can upgrade to 512MB of RAM, a 40GB 5400rpm hard drive and resolutions (via zoom mode) of up to 1024×768. I’m still not sure if there is a market for these, when budget laptops with more power and space go for less. I guess we’ll see when late April hits.

I agree with the uncertainty regarding the market for these devices. But, when a Archos AV700 with 40GB harddrive is going for ~$550, this doesn’t look that bad by comparison. It could potentially have a great deal more funcationality than the current group of PMP’s on the market. Especially if the price drops $100-150 or so.
