Airgo Confirms Draft 802.11n Products Will Trample Nearby 11g and 11b Signals
Toms hardware had previously shown that pre-802.11n products could potentially trample all over nearby 802.11b and 802.11g networks. Now, it appears that the behavior found then is being confirmed by chipset maker Airgo. Though the “11n” committee has agreed to convene on the matter until solved, Airgo has cautioned that the problem could require silicon changes to fix. In short, Airgo is saying devices sold now who advertise the ability to “firmware update” to fully compliant 802.11n products may not be able to do so. Competitors Atheros, Broadcom and Marvell are likely not pleased with Airgo’s airing of dirty laundry and this is likely not the last we’ve heard of this story.
