Use Multiple Touchscreens with One PC for Home Automation from RedRadio

redradio utmaHome Automation is quickly becoming affordable and flexible, and the new “100% Quiet Touch Computer” from RedRadio is a clear indication that the average home user may soon be able to enjoy what the upper class has had for years (via Automated Home). The RedRadio RelayTouch-UTMA is an in-wall 12.1″ LCD touch monitor and hardware client that acts as an ultra-thin client. It doesn’t require a CPU, hard-drive or other storage, making it extremely quiet. Using NComputing’s UTMA (Ultra Thin Multi-Access), the RelayTouch system uses an existing home automation server to power up to 10 touch screens around the home. Running Windows Server 2000 or 2003? Well, then you can support up to 30 separate screens!

Using some kind of wicked home automation mojo, the RelayTouch-UTMA system can access the host PC’s “excess computing power” to run applications without decreasing the overall performance of the PC or other connected touch screens. Each screen connects via Cat5 cable and utilizes a low-voltage power supply for power. The RelayTouch 12.1″ touch montior with UTMA will cost you about $1100 and will be available in March. It’s looking like 2006 may be the year for huge advancements (and significant price drops) in home automation.
