eHU Giveaway: Sonos Digital Music System – Introductory Bundle

sonos intro bundle

In the spirit of starting the new year with a bang, we are happy to announce that we will be giving away a Sonos Digital Music System – Introductory Bundle to one lucky person. The bundle will include (2) ZonePlayers and (1) Wireless Controller, for a total combined value of $1199.00! The prize will be given away on March 10th and is open to the general public – though we would prefer for it to be given to one of our regular readers or forum members (wink, wink).

So what do you need to do to participate? It’s easy, really. All you have to do is fill out a form telling Sonos, Inc. how long you’ve know about the product, why you want one, and some information about yourself, and you’re done. Good luck everyone!

Winner: Andrew McLaughlin (Member ID: drew138)

I just received the same error message.

Sorry about those of you who got an error message. I looked at the error logs and I think I’ve corrected the hiccup. I was also curious to see how many people’s information got through, and I’ve got to say… it’s better than I expected :D

This is not a good thing!

I added the “Total entries so far: XX” message next to the submit button so everyone can keep tabs on how many people have participated.

I don’t think this page likes me! No matter, since I couldn’t submit an entry, I’ve taken the liberty of posting this link on the SONOS forums.

PS Please don’t ban me if this is something that shouldn’t have been done…

  • http://www.wicosys.com Wicosys

    I get the following error:

Could not execute QUERY – please email WEBMASTER [script last tweaked at 9:00am 2/10/06

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

Hmmmm. That’s odd. Everyone else seems to be getting in fine.

Suggestion: If you are getting an error, hit the BACK BUTTON on your browser and hit submit again (the server may be busy).

LOL - I don’t mind, but I think the people who wanted to keep this quiet will.

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

I’ve tested the form a few more times. Everything seems to be in order. Again, if you get the message saying that the server is busy. It’s probably true, so sit tight… hit the back button and resubmit or wait a few minutes and try again.

Side note: I’m surprised to see how many of our eHomeUpgrade readers live in the San Francisco Bay Area — Very Cool. Maybe we should plan to do a meetup in the future.

  • mcw

When I don’t get a message about the server being busy, I get one saying that I didn’t enter all the required fields.

I have everything filled in (even asking for more info about Sonos) but it keeps giving me that error.

I even tried it in IE (I originally had used Firefox).

    Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help. I really enjoy your site.

I’m baffled… I just tested it out in IE 6 & Firefox 1.5 and it works fine.

My suggestion is to fill in ALL your personal info into the fields provided and then answer:
Have you heard of Sonos before this contest? No/Yes
If Yes, how long ago? [Make a selection]
Why do you want a Sonos Digital Music System? [Add your thoughts]

    —-

Do that and you should be good. Let me know if that works!

I have been trying to register for 7 hours. Now I get this error message (for the last hour).

    Don
    ———————————————
Server Busy – Hit the BACK BUTTON on your browser and submit again
    ——————————————-
Back and submit have been attempted 10 ten times in the last 30 minutes.

  • sdsdv10

Almost another hour later and I still can’t register…. Don

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

This is ridiculous. You guys are pulling my leg or something. Obviously, if you’re getting the “server busy” message, that tells me that you HAVE entered all the information correctly. The problem is that for some reason it’s just not wanting to go into the database . This also tells me that it’s not an HTML/browser issue, but either a PHP/MySQL issue, or may even have something to do with a user’s slow connection, or the ability for the script to not be able to capture a user’s IP address. Any Web Developer geniuses have a theory as to what’s up.

Those of you who are having problems, post your setup:

    • Internet connection type (i.e. dial-up, broadband)
    • Operating System (ie. OS X, Windows XP)
    • Browser (i.e. Firefox, IE)
    • And details on any type of IP blocking software — note that it’s required for us to capture this data in the background

UPDATE: I added a data field under RULES & GUIDELINES that will show your computer’s IP address on the giveaway form. If you’re not seeing it, then you need to figure out why your computer is blocking it from our server, otherwise you won’t be able to register – sorry.

That was not cool. You can’t win so you make it harder for everyone else to win?

I’m sure Alex is happy that you got all the Sonos forum users over here though. It doesn’t do a thing for Sonos however.

To be honest, I’m not super thrilled about opening it up to the general public either. The truth is Sonos, Inc. insisted that it be open to all so that they could gather the widest range of research information (which is understandable). Of course, if it was up to me, only eHomeUpgrade forum members would be able to participate ;).

Anyways, the external traffic might be a good thing for all of us because it will show others what a tight community we have and may entice others to join our forums.

What? Sez who I can’t win? I have plenty of freinds on the SONOS forums so I felt that they would be interested in this since most have already bought a system, why not try and win a free one?
This contest is running for a month, so I doubt that only 100 people or less would sign up. You make it seem as if I was being blocked/forbidden to enter, not the case.

Maybe you’re the kind of person that doesn’t let people you know in on a good offer/deal/chance for a prize, I don’t know, but everyone I know will be entering, so I still have a pretty good chance to win indirectly if I could get the winner who could care less about the system to sell it for a great price!

BTW, Alex my submission worked on a different PC. No difference in setup:

    Same Specs:
    OS – XP Home
Browser – Custom version of Explorer
    No FIrewall/AntiVirus software running

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

OK, guys. I rebuilt the form script from scratch this morning. It’s running lean and mean now and should cause no more headaches. :D

  • c0rky2643

I’m glad that the giveaway is open to the public. I have been reading eHu for some time now but this is my first post in the forums. I understand making giveaways forum members only, that way you can’t just google “free giveaway”, but for me, who often doesn’t have anything worth posting, forum only means “not you”. Oh, I could post some sort of nonsense but i refuse to waste mine and everyone elses time. Anyway, thank you for a great website, thank you for great articles, lively debate, and awesome giveaways!

Incredible, three days and I still can not get registered. I tried from home (Dlink router, Linksys model, IBM T22 laptop running Win XP Pro, no known IP blocking) and now from work (IBM desktop, Win 2000, unknown IP blocking), both give the same error message.
    ———————————————
An error has occurred. You may have an inaccessible / hidden IP address. Please UNBLOCK. OR, if your IP is showing in the submission form, then the server may just be busy. Please try again in a few minutes.
    ——————————————–

What doesn’t make any sense is in the first line of the registration form:
    • IP address must be accessible – yours is xx.xx.xx.xx
Both home and work give what appear to be valid IP addresses, otherwise I thought I should get an error message here. Am I missing something?

It really shouldn’t be this difficult. Something must still be wrong as according to the registration entry page only 89 people have signed up.

    Don

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

sdsdv10 – if your IP is showing a valid IP number then you’re good there. As to why your info is not getting through… I have no idea. Everyone else seems to be doing fine. I haven’t received any other complaints through our contact page, and since you first started having problems the tally was 63, now we’re at 89 as you noted.

  • jprafter

I’m having the exact same problem as mentioned above, I do notice the number is still at 89, I think that should be a clue that this isn’t working.

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

Not exactly how I wanted to spend my Sunday afternoon, but nonetheless it was required of me to figure out what the hell was wrong with the form script. After A LOT of trial and error it turns out that certain text characters were to blame for the database errors. For example, if you used a word processor that uses the curly apostrophe () instead of the generic straight apostrophe () and then try to copy-n-paste that data into the submission form text box, the database would choke and not accept the data. So for anyone who uses PHP/MySQL and creates forms you might want to consider adding addslashes() to your PHP forms to solve this problem in the future.

  • sdsdv10

Success! Thanks for the weekend troubleshooting Alexander.

Nothing yet that I can find. According to the registration page the winner was to be announced yesterday. Oh well, I hope someone won.

  • http://www.alexandergrundner.com Alexander Grundner

Thanks for you patentince everyone. A winner has been selected. We will be making the announcment hopefully at the end of today once everything checks out with Sonos.

For about a month now we’ve been running the “Sonos Digital Music System – Introductory Bundle Giveaway” (a prize worth $1,199), so we are very excited to announce today that Andrew McLaughlin (Member ID: drew138) is the lucky winner. I’m sure their are a lot of envious people out there who wish they won prize, but don’t fret… we are working on bringing other great giveaways in the near future. Congratulations, Andrew!
