CBS to Sell Downloadable TV Episodes on CBS.com (Who’s Next?)

cbs survivor promo picIt’s about time! Sure, buying TV episodes from an online service like iTunes or Google Video is convenient, but it also means that TV networks have to giveaway a portion of their profits to a third party. In my opinion, the Discovery Channel is one of the leading marketers of selling their own content in DVD form. Ever notice those graphic messages at the bottom of the TV screen while your show is playing that notify you that either the particular program or TV series you’re watching is available for purchase at Discovery.com? I know I have. My gut tells me, now is the time for all TV networks to start offering content – at the same time or just after airing would be best – for download and in various size/codec formats. It’s the next logical step (heck, why not even add an RSS feed letting people know when new content is made available). And, if you’re a die-hard fan of any TV show, you know which channel/network is supplying your fix.
