Build a Windows Vista Ready System Today

microsoft windows vista logoThough we are still months away from seeing Windows Vista officially released, beta 2 is about to hit and the guys at ExtremeTech have decided to cover what you will need today to be ready for Windows Vista when it comes out later this year. ExtremeTech does a good job of covering different PC builds that you would want to consider, from a Media Center PC to a Business Class PC to a Gamer’s Rig. It’s a very informative look at what Vista will require and should help give you an idea as to whether you want to wait to upgrade, or take the plunge now.

It should be noted that even though these PCs will run Vista, they won’t necessarily have all the features enabled. For instance, the video cards listed support DirectX 9, but Vista will have version 10 (also called Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0) by default, which supports features that most video cards don’t yet support, like geometry shaders. Also, Microsoft recommends hybrid hard drives (hard drives with built-in flash memory to speed up access), but these drives haven’t even hit the market yet. Though current CPUs support dual-cores and are 64-bit, hardware virtualization is still an upcoming feature and may be something you’d want in a business class PC especially. Overall, a very good luck at what the near future has in store for the new Microsoft OS.
