New Digital Home Features Added to iTunes 6.0.2

apple itunes airtunesApple has added a few new interesting features to iTunes version 6.0.2. Users now have multi-room audio streaming capabilities via separate AirPort Express adapters (a feature they’re calling AirTunes), built-in iPod-compatible video conversion tools, and auto music/video/photo syncing between a PC and an iPod, among others. All-in-all, the new additions hint at the direction Apple may soon be taking into the living room.

New in iTunes 6.0.2:

MiniStore
Discover new music as you enjoy your collection or import new CDs with MiniStore – right from your iTunes library.

Convert Your Movies
Create iPod-compatible versions of your home movies using iTunes.

AirTunes
Now simultaneously stream music wirelessly to up to three home stereos or powered speakers with AirTunes.

Music Videos
Browse more than 3,000 music videos available for $1.99.

TV Show
Download full seasons or the latest episodes of your favorite NBC Universal, Sci Fi Channel, USA Network, ABC and Disney shows.

Customer Reviews
Post your own customer reviews and ratings for music, TV shows, videos, audiobooks and podcasts, and read what other fans have to say.

Give Music and More
Buy and send music, audiobooks and videos as gifts. Give iTunes Music Cards and gift certificates.

Side note: There seems to be a big controversy brewing about iTunes 6 gathering too much personally identifiable information with its new MiniStore function that’s raising some privacy red flags – see CNET’s “Apple’s iTunes raises privacy concerns.”

As one of the beta testers for RogueAmoeba.com's Airfoil2 product, I can tell you hands down that Apple's new multi-airport functionality is lame by comparison.

Airfoil2 can stream any number of airport express's and keep them all in perfect sync (which will happen due to the timing issues of networks). Also Airfoil isn't limited to just the use of iTunes, it streams from any application that uses audio, so Mac users who like Rhapsody, Real or Pandora.com's web streaming can use Airfoil to transmit the music to their stereo's. Oh and you can control volume for individual airport's.

It's got way too many other features to mention here (including scripting ability), so Mac users... go buy it, it's the best $25 spent this side of MacWorld.
