Cambridge Audio Azur 640H Review

cambridge audio azur640hThe guys over at AV Review took a look at the Cambridge Audio Azur 640H high-end audio player and came away mighty impressed (via Theater At Home). This premium unit, which rings in at 600 Euros (that’s $1050 for those of us across the pond), is not for the budget minded. If, however, you are looking for incredible sound and flexibility and don’t mind the price, this unit should be on your short, short list.

The Azur 640H sports a whopping 160GB hard drive that can store up to 30,000 compressed tracks or 3000 uncompressed. The CD drive can also burn custom music mixes; so be prepared to share. The 640H can also connect to your network through it’s built-in ethernet port, which gives it the ability to lookup album information for your CDs. While it’s on the network, it can act as both a server and a client – streaming your files to another PC or allowing your PC access to its files. Also, it has USB ports which allow you to share songs – both ways – with your portable music player of choice. Throw in support for WMA, WAV, MP3 and AAC files along with internet radio support as well. If you can disregard the minor interface issues, then this player, though expensive, gives incredible sound for the money.

I cannot back up my hard drive. I connected an external USB harddrive to the system and nothing happens. Like it does not recognize that anything is plugged in. I have contacted Cambridge Audio support and they have been no help. In fact I am very dissapppinted with support. I doubt if I’ll ever buy from them again. Any suggestions?
