Is Microsoft Bullying PC OEMs to Support HD-DVD over Blu-Ray?

By Alexander Grundner | December 29th, 2005

hd-dvd gorillaWhoa, lots of interesting news in the Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD battle. Word today has it that Microsoft is using its influence to convince PC OEMs to pass on integrating Blu-ray drives, and opt for HD-DVD drives into their future PCs instead (via HD Beat). Reason being, HD-DVD is natively supported in Windows Vista at no charge, while Blu-ray royalties cost PC OEMs an additional $30 per machine to license. Fair enough, right? Well, EE Times adds, “There is also talk that the software giant may be planning to offer cash incentives – in the form ‘coupons’ – to system vendors or retailers if they agree to support HD-DVD. Such coupons would provide ‘credits’ or ‘memos’ for each PC that is sold with HD-DVD inside.” MORE »

kodak easyshare-one automatorApparently, with all the bells and whistles Kodak’s new EasyShare-One Wi-Fi enabled digital camera has, it only has the ability to send photos to Kodak’s online gallery. Being the case, Phillip Torrone, over at MAKE Blog, found a way to get his new camera to play by his rules. The solution is actually pretty simple: Install Kodak’s EasyShare software on you Mac, configure the Wi-Fi camera for network sharing, and add Flickr Automator Action 0.1, which will then send an email to your Flickr account automatically when any new pictures are added to Pictures/Kodak Pictures/. Note: Flickr Automator Action 0.1 will work with any digital photo folder it’s configured to.
