FolderShare – Multiple PC File Syncing Made Easy

foldershare screenshotEver wish there was an easy way to sync your digital docs and media with other computers on a home network or remotely from an office or school computer? If you’re like me, the answer is yes. Luckily, a company called FolderShare – who, by the way, was just recently bought up by Microsoft – has a freeware solution that not only makes file syncing between multiple computers and devices as painless as possible, it also allows users to create managed accounts for friends and family to remotely access your files/folders online with permissions.

How it Works

My FolderShare: Configure and manage your account from here.

  • Go to www.foldershare.com from any web browser and login to access your “My FolderShare” page.
  • From here you can do any of the following:
  • Setup devices to sync or share with
  • Invite others (via email address) to share your files
  • Manage your account – upgrade your subscription, change your email address or password
  • Get help
  • Download the latest software

FolderShare Satellite: The software you need to install on the device(s) you want to sync or share files with.

  • The FolderShare Satellite will run in the background when you are online.
  • As you update shared or synced files, it will automatically update them on the other devices connected.

so, I’ve been using netdrive for a while.. just wonder if there is any advantage to switch to this?

    1. It’s free
    2. You can use this product to sync content on multiple PCs — at home or remotely.

    1. netdrive is free as well(check official download site.. not sure if I can post it here?).
    2. the syncing option is fine, but if I have a server station with 200 gbs of stuff I want to share, syncing is not an option for every computer. I played around with foldershare last night, and yes, there is an on-demand sort of ability to transfer files, but it is not intuitive; if I forwarded an invitation to a friend to share in my ‘foldershare community’, I’m sure they’d be lost, or at least, just as lost as I was given the time put in… with netdrive, it’s a simple installation and a drive map.

Yes, please post the URL to netdrive. I did a search the other night, but I wasn’t sure if I had the right service.

I am always a bit wary about storing files online. If all you are worried about is syncing files across a home network, why not use Microsoft’s simple SyncToy program rather than bothering to sync all your files with an online folder?
