Whoa, the Videora guys really did their homework on the Xbox 360! Honestly, I forgot about some of the restrictions Xbox 360 has in place for video playback – only supports: DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and WMV. Luckily, the Videora team has put together an excellent FAQ and have announced the Videora Xbox360 Converter. Bottom line: you can only stream compatible video from a PC running Windows XP Media Center Edition (not a standard XP machine), or you can download video from the Xbox Live Marketplace, but then you will then be required to buy the optional Xbox 360 Hard Drive.

First of all you can stream videos to xbox 360 from any windows xp pc. Theres a windows update for this. it’s called Windows media connect.

I think you’re missing the point of this post. Xbox 360 has limited file format compatiblity. It only supports: DVR-MS, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and WMV. Popular formats like DivX, XviD, MPEG-4, Quicktime and H264 are unplayable and not supported in Windows Media Connect or the Xbox 360. Hence, the reason for the converter.
i agree this is a problem but for now you can use videora. I’m looking to start a petition. but first i’m going to search on google if theres one already started.
In addition to Grundner’s comments of you missing the point I’d also like to question your post about being able to stream video using Windows Media Connect on any XP PC. While WMC does typically enable you to stream video from the XP PC, the XB 360 seems to have a limitation of not allowing you to stream video through WMC, only through XP Media Center.
This is what the Videora boys are talking about in their FAQ.
I have personally setup both WMC on an XP PC and also XP Media Center to test video streaming capability on the XB 360. I have yet to find a way to stream video using just WMC on an XP PC. I have confirmed that I am properly sharing video in WMC, everything is configured as it should be, and the services startup fine on my XP PC.
If you have successfully setup the configuration you’re mentioning, please post instructions. I’d love to see them so I don’t have to keep a clunky (and very limited) XPMC around just to play vids (also requiring me to use Videora to convert them).
